Large froe blade, new pattern, British made

This is a large froe blade, made in England from good quality steel. The blade is machined from 50mm x 10mm stock with a double bevel for extra strength and improved splitting ability. The blade length is about 10.5 inches (26.5 cm) and the total length is about 12 inches (30 cm). With proper use this should last a generation but if there are any significant problems with it then I will refund or replace at my discretion. For some of my customer's opinions, please check my seller's feedbackIf you would like any advice or assistance with using the froe, please let me know.  If you are making your own handle, the internal diameter of the eye is about 35mm and I recommend a handle about 40 cm longNote that the exact measurements of the froe may vary slightly from time to time as one batch sells out and the next batch gets made. How to useYour log should be smaller than the length of the blade and ideally not more than 16 - 18 inches long if you want to split it in one blow. Make sure that the log can stand stably on its own and place the froe blade across the middle of the log. Try and avoid splitting through the middle of large knots if possibleHolding the handle lightly but firmly, hit the middle of the blade smartly with a large wooden mallet or maul, ideally made from another length of log as otherwise it won't have the required weightThe log should split with one or two blows. If the wood is very resistant to splitting (e.g. old oak) then consider making up a couple of wooden wedges beforehand to assist with the splitting. If splitting staves from a longer piece of wood you should seriously consider investing in a riving brake - this will enable you to guide the split and end up with good even staves Postage and PackingFor UK buyers, I send all froes by registered first class post, which means that you should normally get a delivery within a couple of days. I normally get all froes posted out the next working day after your order - if there is any delay I will let you know. Note that price includes packing. The weight of the current froe design is a little over a kilo - sorry about the postageFor European buyers I ship by signed-for airmail which costs £13.60 I don't currently supply froes to the US or Australia or nearby countries.
